Yup, and it's introduced a new level of incivility. Noone says hello to anyone. It' s like it's given license to all the socially awkward, awful people in the world.
I've found the same. This used to be a nice friendly area where everybody smiled at eachother and said hello. Now I can't even make small talk with the cashier to make them feel like I see them as a person and not an appliance.
Keep trying. I find most people respond to a smile and a thank you. I usually add have a great day.
And even though 98% people have masks on... ~30-40% or so don’t want them so you’ll find common ground if just willing to talk.
Here's a bit of hopium for ya. I went into a quickie store this morning, the cashier was not wearing a mask, I wasn't wearing a mask but there were a couple of people behind me that were. Had some good (loud) small talk about how stupid masks are with the cashier. Made my morning.
I go out of my way to thank people for not wearing a mask whether they are inside or outside.
And I go out of my way to not even lift an eyelash to someone who’s wearing a mask.

I was once hiking in the middle of nowhere and a mountain biker came barreling down a trail wearing a mask.

I’m a mountain biker. I go to the trails to release my emotions but last year was horrendous because I I find myself so enraged by outdoor covidiots that I found myself partially going out on trails TO GET ANGRY at the stupidity and yell and laugh at them.

Yesterday I saw two 30ish parents win 2 kids 4/5 and both the kids had on masks but neither of the parents!!!

Apparently, it’s a new thing now if someone hikes without a mask, then sees a person approaching, puts on their mask, and once that person passes they take their mask off. I hate when people do that. New variants of stupid.

In Ireland. Same shit here. Just me and my lady without masks almost everywhere we go. I’m rockin the MAGA hat too just so they know I’m not fuckin around. My 5 year old son asked me a couple of days ago, at bedtime, “why don’t you wear a mask in the shop dad?” I told him the truth. That I’ve learned a lot about ‘the cough’ as we call it, and we’re strong and healthy and if we got it we’d be fine. Also that I dont think anyone should were a mask but if they’re worried they can do as they wish and that’s fine by us. He asked if he could wear one next time. (Feels left out or the trendy designs caught his eye or something I suppose) i said no, you can’t. You need fresh air to grow up to be big and strong. I hate that they’ve made it normal for kids.

I went to Barnes and Noble with a Starbucks coffee, mask worn in back of my head. Gay employee runs up to me and tells I'm not allowed to drink in there so I slurp up the rest exaggerating the end of it really loud. This cock knocker then tells me I need to wear a mask so I turn around show him the back of my head and say I am. He tells me it needs to cover my mouth I tell him I cant hear him his mouth is covered and interrupt him saying huh.. what.. finally he pulls his mask down to yell at me and I start screaming this man needs to put on his mask this flower is trying to kill me with his covid infected mouth. I did not know that. I'm lucky that I have a small local chain in my area and don't go to Kroger very often (they're cheaper, but it's a 30 min drive). My local store doesn't give a rats ass that my wife and I shop there without masks. Contributing to Burn Loot Murder gives me even less reason to make the long trip to Kroger now.

Right now I wear a mask pretty much when I go out. Mainly because it’s a state wide mandate and I just don’t like hassling people because I get tired of people either cussing me over it pretty much daily at my job where I’m forced to enforce the mask mandate or the store that I work at is met with forced closure and fines(up to $10,000 is what I’ve been told).
There's a mandate here in my state too. Still don't wear it. A lot of people don't wear it. I've been asked to put one on in stores but I just tell them to either to shove the mask up their ass or I tell them, "No, I don't think I will."
Wear one for work but if you want to be an upstanding citizen, don't wear one at all other than work.

It has let me know which businesses to not shop at. I have tried to do the whole small business thing, but if I walk in your store and you scream at me to wear a mask I'm walking out and never returning.
Went to a grocery store with the lady today. Neither of us wearing a mask. We were the only people there who weren't. No one bothered us at all. The staff helped me more than once. Checkout girl was friendly. And as we were finishing a man in a mask walked by, leaned in slightly to us and said (I kid you not) "I'm glad to see the are still some people with courage".
Made me feel good, while also a bit sad for him. He recognized "courage" without living up to it himself.
But maybe in a few more weeks hell find he has it inside himself too.
I know this sounds like a "and then everybody clapped" story, and I have no way to prove it. But I know for myself that I am telling the complete truth regarding the experience I had today.
I am very friendly, and I smile at and treat everyone around me in public well. I'm also a fairly large and intimidating man in my own way. So that could be part of why we were left. When my old lady goes out she complies with the mask mandates. But when she goes with me she goes maskless.
It really depends on the employees here. Dewine has people that check and the businesses are terrified of the fines.

I never wear a mask when going into stores. If someone says, "You'll need to wear a mask in my store," I say, "OK I'll just go to a different store."
Couple of days ago I'm at Aldi and a woman walks up and says, "You know you're not wearing a mask!?!?!" I replied, "You know what you're not doing? Minding your own fucking business." I continued with my shopping and checked out without any issue.

got 4 products, 1 error, 25% failure rate
10 or so items, at least 5 substituted with something else. Had to remove and reject all substitutions. 50% failure. Plus 1 wrong product I never noticed until I was home because I was dealing with the substitutions.
I would NEVER trust anyone to pick out my produce.
I get groceries delivered every week. I almost never have substitutions or mistakes.
However, heavy items like a case of bottled water are usually "out of stock".
I attribute the problems more to lazy employees (and a new process) than anything else. The service has done nothing but improve in the last year.
Wife confronted manager at our local Kroger, ready to rip him a new one about MyPillow, but he agreed with her, its BS.

Went to Sam's club Saturday at 2pm, packed as usual, everyone I saw was wearing a mask. I just strolled in smiling at at everyone I saw. Lots a people maneuvering carts around me. To top the day off see good neighbor/friend coming by in car as I was coming home started to wave but pulled it back as I saw he was wearing a mask while driving alone.

Ive seen the following sign in person a few places and felt quite honored as a customer and a human. This is what a respectable business posts in their store if they feel they want to respect ALL CUSTOMERS not just the ones who use FEAR as a weapon. “Attention Customers: Those in our government have ordered all persons entering an indoor facility to wear a mask. If you have a medical exemption preventing you from wearing a mask, you are exempt for this order. Due to HIPPA and the 4th amendment, We cannot legally ask you about your medical condition. Therefore, if we see you without a mask, we will assume you have a medical condition and we will welcome you inside to support our store.” It would be a shame for you to loose business to those who truly support Local Small Businesses. Remember I CHOSE YOU over Starbucks etc...
