What would happen if Trump just ignored the second impeachment and simply did not put forward any sort of response or comment. I think it would reinforce what a sham the whole thing is.

I do not believe he wants to serve again I think he wants to support Donald jnr in his run for the presidency. Even if he was found guilty I think the Supreme Court would rule it unconstitutional and overturn any guilty finding.
