It would be pretty epic to see a girl's sporting event get cancelled right as the teams are supposed to take the field as they refuse to compete against male players. Or "play" but just mill around doing nothing on the field.

But that is as likely to happen as some of the other fantasies you see floating about. In reality, it is often young women that go for this garbage. They'll gladly fall into obscurity in their own sports, riding the men's coattails to victory and use regulations to ensure enough girls are on the team and the teams collectively win scholarships/whatever that they won't care they've put themselves backwards, again.
