Our money is backed by nothing. Nixon took us off the gold standard. Ft.knox is empty.

Yoi couldnt possibly buy ALL the gold, saudi princes have unknown quantities, if you bought all the US supply somehow and destroyed it, you would make the richest people on earth even richer

that's just like saying "what would happen if we all burned down our houses?"

don't destroy something so precious and valuable

Water is more valuable than gold. Silver is more useful and workable.

Destroying and ruining are two different ideas

You would have lost all of your money. Currency has nothing to do with gold or silver any longer. In fact, money isnt even real. It is just numbers on a computer.

You would find that you've become a classic, james bond villain.

'Sides which, I don't think you can readily destroy gold.

A few nuclear explosions should do the trick or an active volcano.

Ay Carumba!

I know where you're from - the olden days!

How many currencies do you know of, that are gold-backed?

It's an element made from the process of exploding stars. You can't get rid of it - other than dissolving it in aqua regia. Mercury works too, but I think aqua regia is more efficient.

There's a story about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_de_Hevesy He dissolved his gold in acid to keep it away from Nazis - then returned to precipitate his gold out of solution.

I first heard about that on an episode of Mysteries at the Museum.
