I worked in the Boston Schools, taught in the South End, rough neighborhood, some of the kids were a mess, some were great even though their circumstances were horrific, some parents cared, others didn't.
I went to Harvard grad school, some students were black, none of them had attitudes, all worked hard, none slacked off, none had a chip on their shoulder.
Live now in a high end suburb, black family at one end of the street, mother is very involved with the kids, all are doing well in school, very pleasant people.
My experiences with black people has been positive, yes I am in MA which is a high income state with high test scores for its schools so that is a factor in my experiences to some extent.
But I have traveled a great deal, Europe, Mexico, Latin America, most of the US, the worst black poverty I saw was in in NY, DC and Georgia. Anyone living in those areas would have been desperate people no matter what color they were.
