I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that those who backed out received credible and legitimate death threats. I wouldn’t put it past anybody to do this, especially China and perhaps domestic threats were made too. There was too much riding on this. Trump stood for all the right things, and after 4 years people knew he meant what he said and would absolutely follow through with actions. People were seriously afraid of what he could accomplish in a second term. I truly believe there were things going on behind the scenes which we were not privy to.

I learned that serving in the military where I took an oath to protect the people of the United States even if it meant going overseas into a warzone (which I did) where everyone is trying to kill you. Maybe all of them were not threatened. Plus threats could have been made to their families, and if they were from foreign entities like China, you can bet they knew they could and would absolutely follow through on these threats.
