I would love to see healthcare facilities become very similar to fire departments which have been, generally, staffed with volunteers and funded largely through donations.

I love this retard.... I'm not sure what's more dumb, thinking that most firemen are volunteers, or wanting your doctors and nurses to be....

Well, they are only partially right; most rural fire departments are volunteer, but they are NOT unpaid, and they can refuse to answer callouts.

So you only get what people have the free time to help, which is somewhat workable for service that does not require dispensing every hour of every day, and does not require over half a decade of expensive specialized medical training.

That does not work with healthcare. And that idiot is stupid or ignorant to assume it would.

I'm very familiar with the small town and rural area volunteer fire departments. There was a time when my dad was a volunteer, and I still know several. But in no way would I classify fire departments as "generally staffed with volunteers."

And I'll take a paid doctor or nurse over a "volunteer" that's likely overwhelmed and has another full time job any day of the week.
