I prefer the 1984 version with John Hurt because it's more explicit and true to the original plot, but you'll have to go to Pluto to watch it for free. The full movie is not available on YouTube unfortunately.

IT's got the 50's vibe for sure -- Julia is Every Man's Dream Girl whereas the one from the 80s plays here more as the rebel whore she is in the book. It's a fine line to be sure as her character is both noble and whorish while Smith is something else, possibly too close to us here and at GA to be comfortable.
