As a former Mountaineer, Manchin pisses me off more than most in congress. He (and his support base) is the kind of Democrat that would've voted for Trump in '16. He has the chance to be the single most powerful person in congress simply by having a spine. Just the THREAT of changing parties, which would net him 10-15 more approval points in the state, would allow him to control the entire senate agenda and put a stop to the gutting of Trump policies that SAVED HIS STATE AND HIS VOTERS. Manchin may push back perfunctorily here and there, but he'll be brow-beaten over time, just like he was when he attempted to vote in favor of the Trump tax cuts.
But just like Pelosi, Manchin is only in politics because he's the privileged son of a mob family. He has no principles and he doesn't even have the balls to seize power when it's presented to him on a silver platter. Say what you want about Byrd, but Robert C. Byrd would be the most powerful player in the senate right now if he was still alive.
