What exactly is the honeypot?

  • Parler appeared out of nowhere and astroturfed it's way into existence practically overnight.

  • It's biggest claim to fame: All the GOP swamp had already made accounts! (But none of Trump's inner circle.)

  • It outgrew gab in like, one week. Gab has been around for years.

  • It was completely ignored by MSM and the censor happy social media companies and app stores until after it had successfully captured the majority of conservatives who were already looking for an alternate platform.

  • Switch to Parler stuff was allowed to trend on twitter and all over social media. "Conservatives fleeing to Parler!!" Was posted all over the place with never a mention of any other platform.

  • The website was slow as hell and built on a growth hacking AWS platform, it did not perform like a service. It performed like a pump and dump start up.

  • It never scrubbed metadata from photos, allowing massive amounts of conservative doxxing to take place in the most accessible form available.

  • They had a massive "data breach" just before they went down, further doxxing every person who ever used the platform.

Now this isn't Proof that it was a honeypot, but it's all suspicious as hell and should be addressed.

Thank you for the response. I have strong reason to believe that Parler (and Gab) won't be the next major social media platforms. Simply put, they don't innovate in any meaningful way.

I do agree with the criticisms of it's quality and reliability and security. I considered investing in them temporarily, but then saw the quality problems you mentioned and decided it maybe wasn't the best idea.

Being popular among conservatives is probably in large part to being supported by (and partially owned by) Dan Bongino, so that part doesn't surprise me or seem like a honey-pot.

Full disclosure, that I'm working on a project that would compete with Parler and others, although I do think free-speech platforms need to work together to successfully stand up to whatever attacks come our way. What happened to Parler with deplatforming, had previously happened to Gab. It would just as easily happen to me, if I wasn't careful about my hosting options and backup plans.
