That is great thanks for sharing! I live in a deep blue state, in a small college city, and when I tell you no one around here goes into public places without a mask, I mean literally no one. During this entire time I have only seen two people without masks on in stores--one was at the grocery store, right near the beginning of all this, and the other was about about a month ago at the Dunkin Donuts. If you don't wear the mask where I live, 99% of the time you are going to get hassled. So for me, making the decision not to wear the mask would probably mean just not going places, ordering groceries and other supplies, etc. I like the idea of the exemption card (I do actually have asthma) but I also don't like being disingenuous. I work as a carpenter so I don't have to wear a mask generally, unless I'm in someone's home/business, and then only if I"m asked to. But I've been thinking of telling my boss that I'm not going to wear it anymore and if that means he has to give work to someone else then so be it.
I know we need to resist. I was in kind of a rough spot before all this started, been trying to get back on my feet and stay sober, just taking it one day at a time. Sometimes the idea of pushing back against all this insanity around me seems like one more thing that I just don't have the emotional energy for. But at the same time I know that every day that goes by that I don't fight back I feel a little more defeated.
That is great that you are working at sobriety. Props to you. Take it one day at a time and keep up the good work. You have to make the best decision for your emotional and mental health for sure.
