When the evil politicians started attacking children selling lemonade, that should have been enough to get most people doing something about it.

A 10 year old puts a table next to the sidewalk and sells cool lemonade for 50 cents a cup and ten government agencies land on them. Health department, IRS, city laws officers. Someone then announces the child can sell the drinks, if they pay the city $10,000 and take out a $1,000,000 public liability insurance policy.
Even worse, in many places, trying to cut down a dangerous dead tree on your property.
It is dead, falling over, ready to drop branches on people, but fifty government-sent, taxpayer-funded losers have to inspect it. Under Western water law it's illegal to capture your waste water from sinks, showers, or even your pee. You are breaking the law if you filter your own pee and water your garden with it. Someone literally owns the water rights to your waste water down stream and it's considered stealing from them.

You can grow food on your property.
In many cities it's illegal to grow vegetables in your front yard. Where cities allow it many HOA's will fuck your life up if you try.
To be fair, I can do most of those without permission.
