And historically, Muslim countries didn't just have Black slaves. An estimated 1 to 2 million Europeans were enslaved in northern Africa over 4 centuries.
Northern European seamen could buy "slave ensurance" when they were sailing through the Mediterranean. It would "buy them back" in case they got enslaved by Muslims.
No idea why that large part of history of slavery is never taked about anywhere.
There are groups of modern, progressive Muslims all over the world, who don't take take everything about their religion litterally. Just like modern Christians. We should do much more to support those groups and stop supporting the radicals.
The problem with the progressive Muslims you talk about; is that they don't heavily push back against the Extremist Muslims. They claim to be against it but a lot of times they will tell you that it is Allah willing.
Islam is too focused on Prophet Muhammad and Lot of these progressive Muslims are lying because they would never denounce Muhammad who has one of the worst human traits ever.
I am not talking about those who call themselves "modern" but then still do all the same shit the radicals do.
Here in Germany for example, I read about a group were women and men pray together, they accept gays and are okay criticizing Muhammad. They use a Protestant church for prayers, because mosques will not allow them in.
Of course the government here supports the ultra conservatives and radicals, and ignores the modern groups...
