Our YMCAs are full of students taking online classes while their parents work. There are YMCA staff and volunteers for the kids, so if the virus is so dangerous all the teachers' unions have done is transfer the "risk" to other people.
This. I saw ads for similar positions, and they are probably paid 15-18ish/h with no benefits. Require current first aid/CPR cert, childcare experience, background check already in hand, etc. Far from what teachers are paid, closer to a retail pay with much higher expectations
I am fortunate to live in a red conservative county in Michigan (yes, they exist here, too😂). Our county has never closed the schools this whole time except for a few days the week of Thanksgiving when there was (allegedly) quite a spike in positive testing results. Nobody even thinks it’s unusual anymore, seeing as they’ve always been open. Seems like the longer they’re closed the easier it is to make that your “new normal”.
Schools in a southeast PA have been closed almost continuously since last March. They may let the younger kids go back soon, with high school TBD. A neighboring city (same county) is not considering opening again until March. The private schools and daycare have been open almost the entire time. Non religious people were trying to get their kids enrolled in the Catholic school. As far as I know, there have been no outbreaks associated with the few open schools. It's a blue area and there are a lot of rich Karens, so they'd be all over Facebook complaining if there was an issue.
I don't understand why the public schools are closed, beyond a bunch of local politics (new HS construction - easier not to have the kids around) and teachers unions. Probably many of the teachers have never worked in the corporate world, where they would have been replaced in a heartbeat with lower paid new grads if they acted this entitled. People historically have stayed on as teachers for decades after tenure.
There is more than an ample supply of potential replacements, especially with displaced workers and new grads who never got their foot in the door and had to take glorified babysitting jobs instead.
It is hardly significant, but it's a start in cleaning house. Article says there are 240,000 kids. If you have an average class size of 24 (for convenience of math) there are 10,000 teachers.
The arrogance and strong arm tactic's that these people live under have given them a pledge amoug themselves to be of an elite force, with footing tax payers throats with threats of losing foundational learning , and droping sport art music class's in attempt at forcing school levies to pass. They then doctrinate kids , and are so far off topic;s that have brainwashed and structure students into a weird type of lesson, in which mosyt students need immediate re schooling to enter into college courses. Do away with teachers unions, and hire young energetic people who will live and direct under forums of reality.
More private schools and home schooling might be the answer. Many private schools have been opened for several months already, better part, less leftists brainwash stuff.
