What makes you think these kids are brought in by their families in the first place?
The human smugglers know that a kid is a get-across-the-border-free card. So they pick up kids in Mexico and dump them once they’re here. It’s literally the reason why kids get separated at detention facilities; we can’t verify that these are family units.
I looked it up once. I grew up in a large town near the border. Right now, they have dozens of unidentified kids in the morgue, found out in the desert, dead from gunshot wounds.
This kills me every time our side says “separating families”. We have no way of knowing the adults that bring children with them are related. Words matter. Use them correctly, pedes.
Under Obama there was a scandal... (Sorry it was under Obama, I mean "thing that happened not really worth reporting") where they put children directly into the hands of traffickers and after than a policy was put in place where you would have to prove to be a relative before you could fill your van up with random kids. A policy suddenly of great concern to the left under Trump...

"Dump." Weird slang term for "sell." Those found dead had probably already been "used" too much to retain value.
