Hyland Software

So wait.. You learned to code and didn't get instant 100% job security? Confused biden face

16
hiddenpede [S] 16 points ago +16 / -0

Never said I did. The company had been on a decline on how they treated their employees for a few years with them cheaping out on benefits and then back in December they told managers they were only allowed to hire out of India but didn't make a company-wide announcement about it and then pretended to act all innocent when called out on it.

15
p1smo 15 points ago +15 / -0

Your company sounds shady af. I'd take the hint and start looking for other means of employment immediately.

15
hiddenpede [S] 15 points ago +15 / -0

I'm already out. I was one of the ones that were laid off and that is why I feel like I want to die. I have a bunch of debt I had a budget to pay off, a mortgage and a car to pay and a family to feed. I really don't know what I'm going to do.

8
p1smo 8 points ago +8 / -0

Ah man I'm genuinely sorry to hear that. I wish I had some better words of encouragement for you, just have faith in yourself you'll get through the other side of this. Pretty empty coming from some random person on the internet I know, but I really do mean that. Hang in there pede.

Start your own company.

You have the know-how.

6
Dennislearsysbastard 6 points ago +6 / -0

Usually good management would at least give a few hard clues to get ready to run. This was cruel.

9
hiddenpede [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

That is probably why management didn't know about it until it was happening. The executive management didn't tell anyone about until their "webinar"

>company sounds shady af

New CEO in 2013, I imagine it didn't start of that way, the product sounds solid but that's what happens to solid products and good companies, seen it first-hand many-a-times myself -- a bit of success, growth, immediately gets staffed with pencil-necked paper-pushers who chase out the best employees and eventually sell the company out for a bit of profit to something large where it gets consumed and destroyed furthering a monopoly of something large in that field.

9
hiddenpede [S] 9 points ago +9 / -0

That CEO took over when A.J. Hyland left the company to do some bullshit philanthropic look-at-how-rich-i-am "work". Companies usually go to shit anyway once it leaves the control of its founders.

PS i grew up in Youngstown. Hi Cleveland!

You have my sympathy brother. This fate awaits many of us, myself potentially included, they are fucking up the economy and our futures. In a year we're all going to wish we really had fought on the 6th regardless of whether we win or not we'd have tried.

You worked for evil people. If you can fuck them over in any way do it.

In the 90's there would have been a crowd out there the next day until the cuts were reversed.

14
hiddenpede [S] 14 points ago +14 / -0

From what I'm told the inside of the company is very unstable right now and many people are very angry and looking to get out before they're next.

7
Dreadnot 7 points ago +7 / -0

Get out if you can. Fuckery incoming.

7
hiddenpede [S] 7 points ago +7 / -0

I'm already out. I was one of the ones that were laid off and that is why I feel like I want to die. I have a bunch of debt I had a budget to pay off, a mortgage and a car to pay and a family to feed. I really don't know what I'm going to do.

1
Dreadnot 1 point ago +1 / -0

What kind of skills do you have?

2
hiddenpede [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I am a software engineer with principal experience in web development. The only thing I'm really missing is ReactJS experience. Apparently while I was employed it became the new hotness that everyone wants for some reason.

1
Dreadnot 1 point ago +1 / -0

Is there any way for you to go to business for yourself or do freelance? You could also consider looking abroad for work, with telecommuting being more of a thing. You could also take this time to learn ReactJS- if you make a personal project with it, even if it doesn't take off could you claim experience?

Just spitballing here, but whatever you do the road is not going to be easy.

2
hiddenpede [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

I've considered all those options but I doubt I'd make enough money soon enough to keep myself afloat so that is more of a long term thing. I am taking it upon myself to familiarize myself with ReactJS while I do like a Democrat and leech off of welfare but right now it is very difficult to concentrate on it while trying to find a job and not lose my home.

12
hasheagle 12 points ago +12 / -0

not sure what is more fucked, the loss of careers and the impact on families or the foreign invasion of cheap labor sucking on our tits. what the fuck are those aliens gonna due stuck in ohio? doubt they will ever leave once they get here after visa is expired. not much ICE enforcement in mids America in my experience

19
hiddenpede [S] 19 points ago +19 / -0

What is even more fucked is the agreements they want us to sign to get our severance. They clearly did not want this getting out and giving them a black eye but I think it is too late for that.

7
snuggs316 7 points ago +7 / -0

class action suit; the attorney takes a cut. everyone of those laid off should be publicizing this on their sm, letters to the editor, call-ins to radio shows. name and shame. this is absolutely disgusting at any rate, but even more so during the scamdemic. also, your new job is to find a job...8 hours a day.

8
hiddenpede [S] 8 points ago +8 / -0

A part of the severance agreement is to not talk to the media or our colleagues, not working for a competitor or former colleagues and an admission that Hyland did nothing wrong and there is no basis to sue. It is really disgusting.

6
me-no-likely2 6 points ago +6 / -0

They probably got you to agree to a lot of shit that can’t be enforced. Nobody can prevent you from taking a job at your competitor, at least in CA.

4
Dirk_Diggler 4 points ago +4 / -0

They are counting on desperation for the severance, it you all told them to fuck off, they would be fucked.

3
snuggs316 3 points ago +3 / -0

it depends on your definition of wrong; legally? probably not. morally? oh, hell yes! on a variety of levels. and this will go on 'til people like you and your 139 colleagues stand up, loudly, or there won't be any jobs for your children in 12-15 years.. i guess you have to weigh your freedoms against your finances; that's a shitty place to be. being brave/taking risk is a singular choice; i hope you can figure out a way to say "fuck you" and strike a blow for the workers.....

6
hiddenpede [S] 6 points ago +6 / -0

I'm going to consult an attorney about all this later this month and see what he says. They're not offering me a whole lot of money but as another poster said they're counting on me being desperate.

4
snuggs316 4 points ago +4 / -0

strength in numbers. talk to the other 139. and find a ruthless attorney who files his fangs sharper every morning.

3
me-no-likely2 3 points ago +3 / -0

You need to talk a bit sooner if you can

1

Applications of the suite are used in healthcare, financial institutions, insurance, government, higher education and manufacturing.

Ah yes, why wouldn't we want to outsource this type of software. What could possibly go wrong?

Also, sorry about your situation. I hope you're able to find something better in a reasonable amount of time.

4
hiddenpede [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Oh this is most definitely going to bite them in the ass. Bill Premier (the CEO) and his buddies have been smoking too many greenbacks up in their ivory tower.

3
Throwaway416 3 points ago +3 / -0

Even from just a practical sense it's a bad move. You can't just simply hand software from one group to the next and expect them to be up and coding the next week. Gotta factor in for KT or you'll never get a good outcome.

5
hiddenpede [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Exactly. I'm not sure what they are thinking but we were hurting for more help to begin with and now with half of the development staff gone the work load has doubled and now they expect the remaining staff to train a foreign staff. To make matters worse is they fired people seemingly randomly eliminating people that have been there as long as 20 years eliminating a substantial amount of intimate knowledge of the product and its systems. This. will. not. end. well.

3
nutmeg 3 points ago +3 / -0

I'm thinking Trump would have made a phone call to the CEO....what do you all think?

3
hiddenpede [S] 3 points ago +3 / -0

Definitely. Even though he is not the sitting POTUS anymore (we all know he is the legitimate POTUS) is there a way I can write him a letter? I wouldn't know where to send it now that he doesn't live in the white house anymore.

2

I am so sorry to hear this. I had always heard Hyland was a good company. This is really heartbreaking."Best financial position" they've ever been in.

5
hiddenpede [S] 5 points ago +5 / -0

Yeah that's what makes it even more heartbreaking. I could understand if the company was suffering but there was no excuse to do this to people they called "family". I feel so stabbed in the back after giving so many years of my life to them.

Let me tell you; Hylanders are a real tight-knit group so my friends that didn't get cut tell me that emotions are very high in the company right now and many people are carrying heavy hearts with them. People have even been sobbing during meetings ever since the layoffs.

2
justwow 2 points ago +2 / -0

What type of positions are they cutting? i am acquainted with that area and suspect it will be blow to Westlake. This is a terrible time of year to get laid off (and always very very tough).

4
hiddenpede [S] 4 points ago +4 / -0

Software developers and test engineers. The layoffs targeted exclusively Research & Development. Sales, Marketing, HR, IS and Legal were unaffected.

2
me-no-likely2 2 points ago +2 / -0

We’re back to this shit already?

1
Btcox 1 point ago +1 / -0

According to John Kerry, you just need to learn to build solar panels. Problem solved.

1
Trumpdidit 1 point ago +1 / -0

So sorry to hear. I live here in this area, and by all means, know to well, how tech companies operaste. Most are owned by foreign descents and are operated by US citizens, who are directed to help the structure grow, and when that is accomplished, they then pack up and leave with all profits, and intell, to where they originally came from, leaving lives shattered. It's typical, but common, unfortunately.

1
DearCow 1 point ago +1 / -0

Why would you pay an American $30 an hour when you can pay some guy from Bangladesh $5 an hour, and then charge him at least 50% of his income for rent and food while he works for you?

1
SaltHarvest 1 point ago +1 / -0

Had a question for the OP but first want to say how sorry I am to hear about this. I've gone through it myself in the past. Ultimately I came out better on the other side so I wish the same for you. Since I didn't see it mentioned anywhere here, and since you are a member of this fine website, did you see any evidence that they were maybe culling conservatives with this layoff?

2
hiddenpede [S] 2 points ago +2 / -0

So far no one can make any sense of why or how anyone made it onto the kill list. The company definitely has been progressively leaning further left over the few years with pushing diversity webinars and LGBT propaganda. They even have a big rock on their campus they paint in LGBT colors and call "Pride Rock". They also recently banned Pepe from chatrooms and office spaces for being a "hate symbol".

1
Saltman5000 1 point ago +2 / -1

Yes it definitely has become that lol. My company is planning a new hiring wave for developers and I know that we're setting up interviews.

If you want to DM me your email and CV, what you're looking for etc I could pass it along.

We make all sorts of web apps & sites.
