Japan is the only "non-white" high trust society. "White" countries aren't safe and stable because the skin color of their inhabitants, of course. But because they developed a high trust culture over many centuries. So did Japan. My guess is that people who live for millenia in climates with extreme winters need to start to cooperate in order to survive; and only those societies that manage to develop high trust between its members will survive. Coincidentially, long winters also cause the skin to lose melanin in order to be able to produce more Vitamin D in low sunlight conditions. So the relationship between high trust and white skin is completely coindidential rather than causal in any way.

I have thought about that as well, the extreme winter hypothesis I mean. If you think about it on a basic level it would make sense that people with harsh winters would a) be cooperative b) plan accordingly and c) during the long winter with not a lot to do sit around and create or just think about life and otherwise prepare for the future in what ways you could. So the result is a culture that is cooperative and seriously concerned with the future. Skin color aside that is a pretty good recipe for a successful way of life.
