A good chunk of humanity can't even read, and even among the literate, independent thought is at a minimum.

But sure, learning to fly a plane is what we're missing.

The lack of Critical thinking is the real systemic problem our society faces. It's not just social environments, even at work I see a decline in personal responsibility, ownership, care or the ability to apply critical thinking to problem solve.

Big corporations care more about diversity and inclusion than proper training even for specific skilled jobs. Dealing with incompetence from every angle is now the normal. Its similar to being the only sober person at a bar. Every one is laughing and carrying on thinking they're hilarious, while you are left there seeing the situation for how fucked up it all really is.
