The federal government requires employers to report on race, gender, etc... They use that information to determine if a business is discriminating against certain people/groups. Basically the feds will shake a business down if they aren’t hiring the “right” people. Jesse Jackson used the same technique in the 70’s and 80’s to force businesses to hire minority black people, otherwise he would brand them as a racist organization. IMO it’s illegal, but the feds can do whatever they want.
How it works. I worked in the air cargo industry and the EEO went to one of our competitors and spoke to the owner. He said our records show you should have 6 POC working for you. How many do you have? So the owner calls personnel on speaker phone and asks, how many POC do we have employed? The reply was 7. He says fire one. Turns to the EEO agent and says, any other questions?
