When they pivoted from global warming to climate change they might as well have said we have no idea what we’re talking about. I’m all for a cleaner environment but as somebody who’s been just about everywhere in Asia we aren’t the problem. Get these 3rd world countries out of poverty and they’ll eventually clean up their pollution.
Can’t buy your way out of poverty. 3rd world countries are incredibly corrupt. Singapore has no significant natural resources yet they thrive. Most of the other nations in SEA are poor and very corrupt. There is a direct correlation. Paris Accord is retarded. Reward the biggest offenders who have the most corruption.
No one said give them money. What they need is more freedom and economic independence. Being a factory worker working 16 hour days making a few cents an hour is only marginally better than being a dirt farmer. They are stuck in the industrial revolution with few rights, cheap wages, and overlords who profit from their misery (China). China is taking in billions off the labor of their citizens, participating in global capitalism without allowing their workers to reap the same rewards.
As long as “the west” keeps buying their cheap goods the status quo will remain in place.
This is why you need protectionist tariffs to build a country. Then after that happens maybe opening the country to foreign competition is a possibility.
But we could become a problem like Asia with green jobs I think. There is an aggregatin of plastic waste floating in the ocean the size of Texas and it all comes from Asia (plastic bag ban in my city for some reason). But what happens when we go to something like solar. Then we have solar panels farms (plastic, metal and concrete) equaling the size of Texas in order to power the country (some percentage anyway). SO it's not floating in the ocean but it is the exact same thing. And because the technology evolves we will then have those massive plastics farms to dispose of to make new ones. I assume because they are black in color they will absorb tons of heat from the sun unlike the plastic in the ocean. And can't build a plastic solar farm without oil.

Only way to pump money into third world shit holes to get them to clean up their act is as follows:
REMOVE COMMUNISM
Raise them up with free market capitalist economy
China has the second one down but first one ruins the whole not-pocketing-money thing.

So build the Texas- sized solar panel array on the Texas- sized island of plastic
And before that global ice age. When my dad told me he grew up with that, it all clicked.
