This is what the Scottish Nazi Party did when they got in power, shortly after they had the region under an iron curtain. Questions at a parliamentary level were entirely ignored with no recourse. Then they started asset stripping the judiciary and replacing anyone vocally against them with party men (while claiming the civil service has no party affiliation, look at the civil service leaderships spouses).

Now they are criminalising jokes, and thought. Encouraging children to report on their parents for hate crimes at the dinner table.
