Fwiw, I've got some experience and background knowledge with all of this, just from my parents' divorce when I was around 14, and my uncle having once being a family court judge. I know both ends (an "easy," divorce and a hard divorce, from both of these examples). My parents were as easy and cordial as it got. Still burnt my dad financially, since my mom was a housewife. So she got to stay in the house, he moved to a tiny apartment. She owns half the house now, etc. But everything was split pretty fairly, all agreed upon by my parents beforehand, no custody battles over the kids (just me really since my brother was already 18), it was over really quick, and my parents, almost 20 years later, are still friends.
My fiancee's parents was kind of the opposite from what she's told me and pretty rough on her and her siblings. Still, I think both of our experiences made us both a lot more careful, and changed our attitudes about marriage. I think we're less likely to get divorced because of that, but that doesn't mean we're immune... things change. But we've also taken things slow, been together 7 years or so now, engaged for over 2, etc, so we both feel pretty comfortable with our decision to get married... but... yea, the thought of divorce still terrifies me. Even with us both making exactly the same amount riight now, I know that I'd still be the one to get shafted if it were ever to come to divorce. Not sure why we ever had to bring the government into marriage, makes no fucking sense.

I met my man on match.com almost two years ago. My info was clear that I wanted a very masculine man who knew his own mind and was old school in his demeanor. We messaged just one time, met the next day. We talked politics within an hour, once we realized we had a great physical connection. I'm very strong in my opinions and beliefs, but he is even stronger and is therefore not intimidated by me in any way. My ex was like a little baby girl child in the face of my opinions.
My man is tall, broad shouldered, protective of me like I'm a treasure, and very assertive in the important ways (wink wink!) He walks around so confident, he's a little arrogant, and I'm glad of that.

I agree. It's been such a blessing being his woman, it's still amazes me that this strong, intelligent, gorgeous man wants me. I think the biggest reason that is so is because of how I look at him, how I talk to him, how I treat him. I treat him like the amazing catch he is, as he does me. We're happy as ducks in water. I got extremely lucky that while my wife was a bit late to the station, she eventually hopped on the train with me.
We both started out as Bernie people, and even when he ran this last time she wanted nothing to do with him. She took his selling us out way harder than I did, because he was what got her into politics. She had been apolitical before then, so getting sold down the river by a politician was a new experience for her.
Just give yourself a bit of time to get over him, and to figure out what you want. It’s tough but it gets easier every day.
