Reminds me of a conversation I overheard between two women outside of a tai chi class I attended. One was boasting about her new electric car, and how her driving was now "emission free". She was so proud of herself until I mentioned that the environmental impact of the mining required to produce the lithium ion batteries was far greater than that caused by internal combustion engines, and that child labor is involved. It wiped the smug smile off her face.
It's not the operation of electric cars that causes environmental damage, it is the mining and processing of the rare earth metals used in the batteries, and the manufacturing process that cause the environmental damage.
The use of child and slave labor in the places where the rare earth elements are mined is another reason for us to continue using fossil fuels.

And that all the electricity for said car either comes from coal plants or from even dirtier solar or water.
Thats just straight up wrong, pretty much everyone agrees that electric cars are better for the environment
No, they don't.
The production process is extremely damaging to the environment, and the power to charge them comes from fossil fuels, usually.
Research mining in the places where they are gathering the rare earth elements and you will see.
I understand that electric cars are not clean, Im saying theyre cleaner than regular cars.

Just google "are electric cars better for the environment"
Just Google "environmental impact of mining processes used in production of lithium ion batteries"
