That’s not what I said. Why do temperature ADJUSTMENTS correlate with CO2? The probability that this happens by chance is shockingly close to zero.
Easy: carbon is easily dissolvable into various polar substances. When temperatures rise, so does the rate of diffusion. As temperatures decrease, so does the rate of diffusion. When it cools, less carbon will be present in air and would likely deposit elsewhere or be absorbed by biomass; and when it warms, so does the quantity of carbon in our air. Since diffusion is dependent on temperature, carbon and temperature should, mathematically, show a similar trend.
Carbon is merely an indicator for temperature. You can say, it's merely a litmus test. Carbon has no intrinsic or extrinsic properties, especially when it makes up merely 0.039% volume of air, to have any effect on heat transfer. It is thermodynamically impossible for carbon to dictate global temperatures.
Climate has been heating and cooling for 4.6 billion years. We are exiting an Ice Age and one day we will enter another. During the Cretaceous period, there were ZERO ice caps. It was among the warmest periods on Earth and Antartica was a tropical paradise. Life was booming! The reality: global warming is real but it is neither bad or good. It is an inevitable process with challenges and immense rewards. Some species live and those who can't adapt will die off. It happens. 5 mass extinction events in Earth's history, one of which was caused by an extraterrestrial anomaly (asteroid). Life always continued and won in the end. Even during the most rapid changes in the climate due to some crazy geoprocess. People are incredibly adaptable. We live in the coldest and warmest places and have been able to flourish in places few species can. We will make it. As the ice thaws worldwide, more resources and landmass become available for people, too. People terrified of global warming need to get over themselves. Man cannot control that which has been happening for a ⅓ of the lifespan of the known universe. It is arrogant as hell to think so. The Earth will continue to do what it always has. Live with it.
