We had over 200 years with no major calls for censorship.
We've had commies, Nazis, and other crazy violent ideologues push their views forward over the past 200 years. Never censored.
This isn't the only major moment where there was censorship in the US: Under the Alien and Sedition act, pushed by big corporatist Adams, there was a law, which people were imprisoned for, for criticizing the President or Congress. It's noteworthy that at that time, criticism was allowed for the Vice President. (In those days, the Vice President was the presidential candidate who got the second most votes, in this case Jefferson.)
As usual, I believe the left is overplaying their hand. Again, they're taking a twitter mob(which may have a large percentage of bots) as consensus for policy.
