That's a similarity, actually - the Israelites started worshiping Baal and pretended God didn't exist - so they fell under the Midianites rule. Age-old story that keeps happening.

We're both guilty of blasphemy, idolatry, degeneracy, pride, sloth, avarice, etc. etc.

It's hard to tell, but I think our societies promotion of pride is probably the worst of them all. Never has pride been a virtue. It will be our downfall.
