So not very effective. Your getting drops all over your lower body and the occasional splash in the face.
Edit: Opening your umbrella when you get out of your car prevents 50% of droplets from touching you.. compares to putting your mask on before you go in somewhere (actually worse because you re use it and put it in and out of pocket)
