Marvin never had sewage lines to his home, which is what the sewage issue was in the first place. He had been dumping his literal shit into a buried concrete mixer and then waiting for rainy days to drain it into irrigation ditches. He was fined because he wouldn’t get a proper septic tank and he wouldn’t buy the fucking uphill pump needed to hook up to the city sewer lines. Mind you, the city was covering everything else in that deal.
A fair price? He got his land for $42,000 and was offered $270,000+ buy the company. He agreed on the deal but changed the price to $375,000 when they returned with the 270K. They then returned with his new $375,000 but he changed his mind and wanted $450,000 at that point. They proceeded to exit the deal, buy a different piece of land, and begin developing that instead. The government was only involved in Marvin’s claim about zoning laws being broken, they were not, and when Marvin was forced to do something other than dump his literal shit into an important irrigation ditch for 9 years. Fun fact, the concrete company offered to pay for his portion of the sewer line and the pump if he would stop trying to sue them.
