Since when are the military supposed to have overt political opinions? I thought it was part of their job duties to not question authority and carry out orders. It’s not like a private sector job where ppl just run their mouth and do whatever they want all day. In their private life military ppl have political views but not in the course of their work.
Since the dawn of organized man. People baffled by the idea that a military can be political is one of the most enduring naïve takes on this site, and it stems from our own country's self-directed propaganda, paid for by our tax dollars.
That's only been a "bullshit excuse" since WWII, when it was used to justify the outcomes of the show trials of Nuremburg. Failing to follow orders as a soldier in a time of war is a sure way to get the firing squad. Think about the inherent contradiction; that the SS were pure evil and shooting anyone they liked, and at the same time shaking them their heads at conscientious objectors that refused to commit murder under order and sending those naughty little scamps back to Berlin. Either following orders I.E. coercion is entirely valid, or the SS were entirely reasonable chaps that permitted conscientious objection. You cannot have it both ways.
The idea that it's an invalid excuse has been drummed into you over 70 years via a propaganda machine designed to prevent you from ever questioning the (contradictory) post-WWII narrative.
All I hear is overt left wing views openly espoused. All the conservatives have to speak in hushed tones, looking over their shoulder. The left will call any right wing person a terrorist inssurectionist white supremacist now.
That was the Army I served in years ago. I understand things have changed quite a bit since then, and not for the better in most cases.
Still, I believe the oath is to the Constitution. I hope soldiers remember that.

Since the Democrats said so.

Small point of order: The UCMJ fully allows anyone, enlisted or officer, to refuse to carry out illegal and/or unconstitutional orders.
It was put there specifically to avoid the bullshit excuse of "I was just following orders".
So from this article then, they only want people who either cannot discern or at least won't refuse an unconstitutional order.
That would make sense, yes... though a not-insubstantial chunk of Basic Training does cover the UCMJ.
They could presumably fix that. And the UCMJ for that matter.

The truth does not fear examination.

I did not know this.
