Those committees really are a waste of time. I am required to sit on boards and committees for my job and it's a huge circle jerk of self important people where very little but printed material ever gets accomplished.
Lots of infographics and soundbites so you can win another award or get another grant internally, but the very people you are talking about never see more than a couple of dollars that trickle down if that. Usually it never makes it that far.
But hey, you get to look like a super hero so you can keep getting promoted and pat on the back for doing good work. These are the only people that profit.
If I were her I’d be taking the position of “Wait, so I don’t have to sit around for hours in an echo chamber circle jerk committee, in a house that we don’t have the majority in, therefore nothing we want will get done, AND I still get full congressional pay??? Shit, what else can I get removed from?”

You're right, but, it really doesn't matter. If you're not on committees you have no influence over legislation, and you can only vote yes or no.
