Just payed my property taxes and realized that I'm paying the government rent for my house and they're using it to pay rent for other people. Feels bad man.
This is one of many reasons why I live way, way, way outside of any city limits: it reduces the property taxes big-time. I pay maybe 1/10 the taxes and live on at least 70x the land area.
Yeah, I still have to pay it, but even here in the People's Democratic Republic of Oregon, my property tax bill is broken down into specific reasons (fire, sheriff/jail, schools and school bonds, county road maintenance, etc).
Surprisingly, there's no leftist bullshit in it. Can't say that if you live in a typical city, I suspect.
Oregonpede here too. Living outside the city saves me thousands every year in fees, taxes, and services. I would argue though that schools and school bonds qualify as leftist bullshit, at least where I live.
