That is terrible advice. Close your account, stop using your card, but don't close it. Shooting yourself in the foot. I closed my BOA account 6-7 years ago, credit cards get used 1 time every 3 years for a sub-10$ purchase so that I don't lose the credit history. I am not a financial advisor, so I don't know why OP did this, but other people, don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

I don't have a single credit card to my name, and my credit rating is in the 700's. You don't need a credit card, especially if you have a long term debt (like a student loan) that helped to establish that credit.

You do realize you look like a BOA shill account, right?

This nonsense of calling someone a shill just because they say something you don't like has to fucking stop. This place is getting more and more like 4chan because of bullshit like that.

I'm neutral on closing credit accounts. It's all about the ratios. If closing it doesn't impact you, like if you carry very little month to month, then it's fine. Keeping a long history card is also a good idea. I have an old card I never use, but the yearly fee is small, and it's for emergencies.

I also don't do business with BoA. My father spent 5 years fighting with them, over a fuck up they made.

Who gives a fuck about credit? Use cash for everything. Credit is how this country has gotten to where it is. Stop being slaves!!! Stop giving the banks you hard earned cash. Save eat raman and save some more. Pay cash for your cars, pay cash for your houses.
