Solar is good if you live like a hermit. Most people in the US however do not live that way and certainly not me. It's not going to heat my pool, hot tub, freezers, central vac, treadmill, TV's, heat or cool my large home. And almost ALL the major advocates of solar live like I live along with having private jets and multiple homes.

My 17kw system completely generates all the power my household uses, including my car. That means 3000 sq ft with 5 ton AC, pool, appliances, etc. It generates about 28,000 kwh a year.
I don't even need a power wall since I have net metering. Without TOU rates, time shifting power isn't possible, which means no ROI on it.

I have solar panels on my roof to charge my car and completely power my house. ROI is 7 years because my power costs are low - $0.135/kwh.
