Geological timeline here.

World was at like 3k ppm - We had an inland sea on NA. Land was lush. Greenery EVERYWHERE.

Great cataclysm - meteor, prolly. Caused huge (global-scale) fires and flooding. Greenery all dies, gets piled under rock layers from floods. All that sweet sweet carbon gets buried.

World has dangerously low carbon. It's all buried (and becoming oil). Hello ice age!

Subduction + volcanoes finally release enough CO2 to make this place not quite as terrible as it was before, but still not great. Ice caps haven't finished melting, still a long way to go to get back to healthy planet (YOU ARE HERE).

"Global warming" is the planet trying to return to its equilibrium state. To pretend humans can or should do anything about it is really arrogant.
