Do we still like Sargon of Akkad around here? In this snippet, Carl goes into chapter 9 of Rules for Radicals, Power Tactics. While I would argue that those opposite us do not abide by all of these rules--especially the part about not becoming totalitarian or ridiculous--this still gives some major insight into the thinking of someone on this side.
One thing that is striking is the understanding that we have morals or other unofficial rules we will not break. These are things like:
No destruction of property; no killing.
Use logic when trying to persuade someone opposite us; seek to understand their point of view and attack any problem pragmatically.
Everyone who has a voice deserves to be able to be heard, or at the very least deserves not to be purposefully shut out.
We are very proud of these rules. We feel they are what set us apart from them.
They know this. They are very happy we've placed these constraints on ourselves, for they use them against us.
We won't burn down a business or loot it? They will.
We won't kick and scream when we don't get our way? They will.
We won't de-platform, destroy the character of, or threaten the lives of people we don't like? They will.
And, by our own admission, we are powerless to stop these kinds of attacks.
I assert our problem is just that. We do not allow ourselves the same vices they do, and for that reason, we lose.
It's been said many times that the Founding Fathers would be oscillating in their graves if they could see how we just bend over and take it from these people. I would guess this to be true. Our Founding Fathers understood these "rules for radicals" before they were written by Alinsky.
The question is: what can we do about it?
***A note about those opposite us becoming totalitarian and ridiculous: This is not the Soviet Union--not yet, anyway. The fact that we aren't yet being carted off into gulags, and the fact that we're still able to say or do anything derisive of the current administration should give us an idea of just how fragile their grip on the wheel actually is. Their object is to silence us, and they are not yet doing a good job of it.
I started listening to Carl around 2017. close to the time the thinkery channel got demo'd and then he jumped to Akkad daily. I think he is one of the best out there, but maybe his edge has dulled a little as far as deep dives... his lotus eaters project is good but I miss 'Sargon'.
I know violence and any talk about it is frowned on, it doesn't seem to much matter since the left can organize and recruit to do amoral and illegal shit - nothing happens. I think at some point something will be necessary.... I have some good ideas, but I am one person with no resources. No matter what there would be blowback and anyone involved would have to kiss the life they love goodbye.
I mean I can make a case for things - but it would be taking me personally in the opposite direction that I want to go into - I wonder how much time is left to take action and turn the fear back onto them. people like us are capable in ways that the trainwreck left aren't, that is why they want to take the guns away and cage washington up.
"Give me something - give me peace or give me war".
