If you quickly cycle into the videos, and immediately downvote them, then instantly go back to the listing of videos, you will not get any ads, so YouTube spends resources and gains no income. At least I haven't seen any ads since I started rapidly downvoting and backing out of White House videos.

I use brave, so I dont get ads anyway
Brave Browser is dope good job, however these ads are embedded into the youtube video itself and not able to be blocked by Brave's ad blocker. A for effort though.

I havent seen a single youtube ad while using Brave. Its probably because I have BAT turned off.
I normally watch YouTube on my phone...well for reasons. So I get ads there.
HOWEVER, I just checked YouTube via Brave Browser and you are CORRECT! Brave seems to block the ad somehow and you just get a white screen with a "skip ad" button and it times out after a few seconds then the video plays. Note some content doesn't get ads at all but I checked some top YouTubers who for sure get ads. It also seems that no other ads tried to populate during the videos.
When Brave ads are turned on you see little pop up windows where Brave serves you ads from their clients in exchange for Basic Attention Tokens every month. Like you said you can opt in or opt out of these ads. I have Brave ads turned on and still did not see YouTube ads.
