"Bars will be closed, people will have to pass through checkpoints to get to major Carnival gathering spots like Bourbon and Frenchman streets, and there will be a heavy police presence patrolling the city as part of a sweeping plan unveiled Friday for the days leading up to Mardi Gras." from NOLA.com

Never been, but from what ive heard, that place is a biohazard in the best of times. To each his own, but not something I’d ever want to do.

they call that liquid in the street "the gravy" - we were hoping our friends in the service industries would have a chance to make some badly needed money.....denied.........

Hey, i get the service industry people i feel for them. But hopefully those folks seriously take a look at finding an occupation where your welfare is not dependent on taking tipsfrom strangers. Every restaurant i know, is selling pretty much the same amount of product just using a take out model instead of dining room service.

And from what ive seen, they are making up the loss of alcohol sales in food prices, which they should. Im self employed, ive had to rethink my construction business. I dont get myself in a position where im gonna be screwed if theres another lockdown. You have to adapt, any server can learn to work kitchen staff, but as anyone knows, the kitchen staff makes less, thats why they are servers. Never understood that having worked in many restaurants. I guess you trade security for lower wages and actually learning a marketable skill.

yah I agree with you. Years ago my friend quit architecture school to follow a guy and work in a bar. WTF. People really think the world is going to go back the way it was. I keep telling them it isn't and they give me the stink eye. While they played I went to school and now I get paid to work from my house. My friend wants to become my gardener lol.

My 20s completely sucked worked 90 hour weeks while my friends had the best decades of their lives goofing off. Meanwhile I'll make 400k next year while my old friends are unemployed. You reap what you sow in this country.

Good for you. Ive drilled into my kids since they were old enough to understand that the suffering they bear in school is inversely proportional to the suffering they will experience later in life.

Theres a simple solution. Ban tips, factor it into the prices, and require restaurants to treat employees like everyone else. I don’t necessarily blame the server for taking that route, its more like the restaurant industry is taking advantage of people who are not astute enough to see that its not a career path. I worked at a high end restaurant 40 years ago, and managed to work my way from dishwasher, to souschef, to busboy, to waiter in 2 years. At 17 far and away the youngest they ever had. I was making easily $1000/wk in high school. I’m thankful they fired me for aligning with another employee, because thats what lead me to go to college.

Yeah, people think we will get back to the way it was, we might, but the genie is out of the bottle. There is a very high probability that something like this will happen again, and you need to factor that into employment decisions.

Yeah i know a ton of people working from home for all kinds of jobs, honestly im pertly envious, although ive worked from home throughout my career. I hate having my place for relaxation being the same place i work. Honestly i think that part of the plandemic was designed to shift capital expenditures to employees, (woohoo, you get a shitty deduction that doesnt account for anywhere near what it costs you and what the employers are saving).

I've been told the real Mardi Gras was in Mobile. Perhaps that would be an option.
