For stolen guns it wouldn't matter because they would just bypass the biometric lock, and it wouldn't be hard. People selling guns, buying guns, used guns, maybe even someone at the factory testing it forgot to reset it... you'd need a way to zeroize it with a factory reset.
Second, the guns would still need mechanical systems inside. Pretty sure the ATF prohibits electronic firing systems because you can so laughably easily turn a system like that into a machine gun with just a piezo oscillator. So the biometric lock would just be an electronically-engaged safety. Meaning you can physically cut the damn thing out.
If someone has stolen your gun and has physical possession of it, the biometric security can be removed, disabled or reset to the thief's fingerprint.
There is a reason fingerprint biotechnology disappeared from the computer world almost as fast as it appeared.
Let's put biometric security on cars to prevent theft, on knives and chainsaws and hammers to prevent murders. Better yet, let's put biometric voting ID cards out there first.
Until that day, the people wanting "more security" on guns can go fuck themselves. If they really wanted to fix the problem, they would have constitutionally mandated harsh prison sentences or death penalties for people who steal firearms and use them in a violent crime, and the new constitutional amendments would mandate prosecution.
The gun/gang/anti violence laws that we had that worked were gutted by piece of shit judges because they deemed them racist or unfair. Judges have way too much latitude and need to be reigned in by strict constitutional rules. Rules that allow the public to prosecute wayward judges. We don't have that, and we can't do that.
We need the states to call a Constitutional Convention and bypass Congress and DC.
