We should simply have history month which encourages people to learn about the past so we don’t do bullshit again. Slavery was bad. Let’s not do that again. Putting Japanese people in camps was bad. Hitler was bad. Hippies are cancer.
I don't think I learned enough about slavery in school even though it consisted of about 80% of my lessons on American history. The American Revolution? What's that? XD
What’s interesting is that if you study the history of slavery, whites were slaves to blacks before blacks were slaves to whites. In fact, apparently the word ‘slave’ originated from ‘Slav’ (Slavic).

People just need to learn bout History and grow up. There is no need to remind people continuously of what happened many years ago.
