The United States has barely known a decade of peace since the end of WWII. That war ended in 1945. Then we had the Korean war from 1950 to 1953, and the Vietnam war from 1955 to 1975. From '75 to '89 was fairly peaceful with only sporadic armed interventions and small campaigns (hmm who was president during most of that I wonder?), but then we had the Gulf war from '90 to '91, followed by the the Somalia war from '92 to '95, and then the Afghanistan war/occupation from 2001 to present, the Iraq war/occupation from 2003 to present, and the Syrian war from 2014 to present.
Strangely, no new wars from 2015 to present though...
