Ironically (if that's the right use of the word), back when I was on Facebook and the lockdowns started, I commented how fast we willing let ourselves slide into socialism. It was sort of hyperbole, but then my lefty friends were like "Hurr durr...socialism? Really?".
I answered with: When the government deems who is essential, who's business's can be open, how many people you can have in your establishment or your home, what time you need to close, even down to mandating disposable menus - you're no longer in a democratic, free, or whatever type of society you want to call it. You're sliding into a totalitarian society of the have and have nots.

At the same time they've changed their title to "Leaders" (synonymous with 'Rulers' or 'Parents' in the sense) and you no longer hear 'Public Servants' anymore. They are not our Servants but Rulers who 'allow or disallow' things.
