Leftism cannot exist in the presence of truth, as it is an ideology founded upon and sustained by lies.

A slight bit of truth makes its way to them, and their entire worldview and ideology begins to collapse, and they can’t have that. They’re so invested in the system that they’ll fight to defend it instead of admit that it lied to them.
