Everybody likes to think that WoW players are like the “sweaty” in the South Park episode, but I’ve raided with lawyers and doctors, and one of our raid leaders at one point was an Army Drill Sergeant by day. He was also the most hardcore raid leader I ever played with. Go figure? Lol.
Everything kinda went south for me in WoW when Cataclysm released, and it never quite had the same magic that it did back in the day. They removed the multiplayer from MMO for the most part nowadays, so there’s no incentive to build a community except within your own guild, if you have one.
I joined WoW instead of drinking benders after a terrible relationship and divorce this past year. Haven't gamed in 2 decades prior to that and fell in love with it. The lore is dumb but the game is still a lot of fun. My raid leader is a marine lol.
Lol, same experience here. In Wrath of the Lich King I was our 25 man raid Main tank. You don't do heroic Ice Crown Citadel without channeling your inner autist and running numbers and stats for the entire raid. It has carried over well into my career lol.
Also, Superman/Geralt is a WoW player and avid raider apparently.
That said, Cata felt more Hollow. I jump back in every now and then, but it hasn't felt the same. That said, I haven't played the new expansion, so I have no idea about the state of the game.

Same
There's WoW Classic now. Not quite the same, but way better than what the original has turned into.

Most of the overworld is a phased single player experience at this point.
Grouping is done mostly by queueing up for quests that last about 30 seconds.
Yep I was out in Cata but back for classic. Atiesh representing this time
