Doesn't surprise me at all. It was a dumb calculated risk, but doctors are no different than most that grow up in academia. They treat research as gospel and exclude the aspect of research where mankind is corrupt. If numbers are hidden or doctored the research is no good. They ignore that data can be manipulated for selfish reasons. I also like to bring up when NOAA was doctoring data to show climate change.
