You're playing their own game here. Freedom and a liberal sense is freedom from responsibility. Freedom in a classical sense is the freedom to do take on responsibilities and decide your own fate as they had limited representative governments which also set the policies and tax rates of the time. Freedom in the antiquity sense is low taxes. American conservative ship should you freedom as a mix between those definitions and how they have morphed over time. to accept the first one as a full definition is to start down the path towards becoming a liberal.
