What is the Origin of the St. Michael Prayer?
FATHER RAY RYLAND
On Oct. 1, 1884, Pope Leo XIII had a deeply disturbing mystical experience at Mass. He had just finished celebrating in his private chapel when he suddenly stood transfixed in front of the altar. For perhaps 10 minutes he stood there as if in a trance, his face drained of color. Then he went to his office and composed a prayer to St. Michael. He told his staff the prayer should be offered throughout the Church.
He explained that he had heard two voices in the vicinity of the tabernacle. He believed they were the voices of Our Lord and of Satan. Pope Leo heard Satan boast that he could destroy the Church in 75 or 100 years, if given the opportunity. Then he heard Our Lord give Satan permission to try. (This sounds somewhat similar to what we read in Job 1.)
The prayer which Pope Leo XIII composed was 10 times the length of the version we use today. Use of the prayer was discontinued in 1964. Thirty years later, in his Regina Coeli address, Pope John Paul II revived use of the prayer. He said, “Although the prayer is no longer recited at the end of Mass, I ask every one not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle against the forces of darkness and against the spirit of the world.” The pope clearly intended that we should offer this prayer in our homes as well. The prayer, by the way, is as follows:
St. Michael the Archangel,
defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray,
and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly hosts,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan,
and all the evil spirits,
who prowl about the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Heavenly Father , We praise your mighty Name and thank you for your mercy and boundless love. In these days of uncertainty and confusion, please send your angels to fortify us and give us strength as we fight the evil one and his children.
In Jesus' Name, Amen.

(Angels do not hear, nor do they answer prayer - (only Father, Son & Holy Spirit)
There is only ONE intercessor. Jesus Christ, and no other. Not Mary, Not Saints, Not Angels. This is Biblical, Christ told us so, and how to pray. Calling out to an angel or a dead human is no different than talking to thin air and doing so is idolatrous and blasphemous.
Ah, a Lutheran. So, Christ did not turn water into wine at Cana? Who asked him to do so? Who interceded on behalf of the wedding party? Now, if your point is that Jesus didn't do pray to saints, well, okay, he is the second Person of the blessed Trinity so he had and has no need to. Have you ever asked another person to pray for you? Your pastor or your friends? Have you ever prayed for someone? How exactly is that different from asking the living saints - for they are living in the glory of God - to do so? And what are angels? They are messengers. Whose messages do they carry? Certainly the Lord could simply speak? Was it the Lord that appeared to Mary? There is a deeper meaning to Christianity, there is a richness of heaven, look for it. Luther has left nothing but empty poverty in his wake.
I am not a Lutheran, I was raised Roman Catholic, and I'm very familiar with the script Romanism provides to excuse its errors.
Then I read the Bible.
Nothing you've mentioned serves as the basis for prayer to Mary, Saints, Angels, and certainly not using chanting with beads. The only go between us and God is Jesus Christ. There is never, ever a time when Jesus instructs us to pray the way Roman has taught. In fact, we are warned not to pray like that. I don't care what the pope says, or any previous popes. And no, they don't have power handed down by Peter from Jesus. There is no Purgatory, and no merit system of indulgences, etc. All of that is nonsense created by Rome to give it global power. And it has indeed. Utterly corrupt, materialistic, worldly power. No thanks

You are partially correct, neither saints nor angels answer prayers. They intercede on our behalf. That is they pray for us in our petitions.
