The carbomb part was meant a joke, but because it's a good discussion:

We would never carbomb their kids. It is a defining feature of "us" that we do not seek to end the lives of innocent people to advance our cause. We cannot become like them in that aspect because "we" is defined as excluding that action.

"Our side", that is, the side of the people seeking the freedom to live and let live, has historically rarely-to-never employed such tactics. When it comes down to it, "our side" goes for the throat, not the heart.
