help me understand this, how is watching gay men interact with each other or even perform sexual acts gonna help him understand aids better?

Well, as the td.w title implies it may have had nothing to do with AIDs, but...

Lets say he discovers that they do so weird sex act he has never even thought of before, like cutting your dick before you have sex or something, that would greatly increase transmission rate.

Even knowing whether anal or oral is more common might have helped then, as we didn't really know yet that anal sex had a much higher transmission rate than oral, just that it was more common in gay neighborhoods in gay men.

cutting your dick before sex? i understand that you're presenting a logical argument but no one is gonna intentionally make sex hurtful! i get your point though, i just don't think there is anything logical gay men can do that would helps spread AIDs mysteriously. when it comes to the second part, why would it matter if he knew if oral or anal were more common? that wouldn't have helped prove which one had a higher rate of transmission as both were more common with gay men then straight couples, that's not how an experiment is supposed to be conducted. even asking gay men who had AIDs what they did would've been a better option.

Actually, I read once that the higher transmission rates in some parts Africa have been partially attributed to a practice where the vagina is dried out with rags before sex(which makes it somewhat more painful for the woman) it causes microcuts in the vagina that increase heterosexual transmission rates considerably.

That was actually what made me give that example, but obviously it didn't apply to gay sex, because men don't have vaginas.
