Worked hard out of college. Lived at home (when I didn't always want too) and paid extra on my student loans while working (also ended up paying cash for nightschool for my masters so as not to take on MORE student debt). I stayed in while my other friends would spend most of their take home pay on an expensive apartment in the City, and go out and spend whatever was left (or credit card) at bars all weekend.
I have since bought a house and got married and all of that. But I'm still paying on my student loans, but am much more well off than my more irresponsible friends (former friends really).
While I of course, would LOVE to just have them go away, I'm realistic about it. What about the people before me who suffered (delaying buying houses and having kids) to pay off theirs. Or the people who just fucked off and skipped payments thinking they'd go away if they ignored them. Do they get there's gone too?
I'd honestly say I might support lowering the interest on the loans. Or making it so the interest on the unsubsidized loans DON'T accrue interest while you're in school full time. But a full blown cancel would be crushing to the system (and not in a good way).
