I haven't heard any other explanation for why Trump picked him, so someone must have advised him to do it. Jared makes about as much sense as anyone else. Every account I had heard of Rosenstein was that Pence recommended him and seeing as how quickly Pence fired Flynn for not breaking the law I see no reason to doubt that.
